The oil and gas industry presents some of the most complex and dangerous working environments, with hazards including hydrocarbon exposure, H2S gas, fire and explosion risks, extreme temperatures, confined spaces, and working at height. PPE in this sector must meet the most stringent standards and is often the difference between life and death.
Flame-Resistant Clothing
All clothing worn in oil and gas facilities must be inherently flame-resistant. Nomex, Modacrylic, and treated cotton (Proban) are the most common materials. Garments must meet EN ISO 11612 for heat and flame protection and EN ISO 11611 for welding operations. Synthetic materials like polyester and nylon are strictly prohibited as they melt onto skin during flash fires.
Gas Detection and Respiratory Protection
Portable gas detectors are considered mandatory PPE in the oil and gas sector, monitoring for H2S, LEL (Lower Explosive Limit), oxygen deficiency, and CO. Respiratory protection ranges from half-face respirators with organic vapour cartridges for routine maintenance to self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) for emergency response and confined space entry.
Specialised PPE Requirements
Anti-static footwear and clothing are essential to prevent static discharge that could ignite flammable atmospheres. Chemical-resistant suits ranging from Type 3 liquid-tight to Type 6 light splash protection are required for chemical handling operations. High-impact safety glasses or goggles rated to EN 166 with chemical splash protection are standard requirements.
TexiExp Technologies supplies FR coveralls, gas-tight chemical suits, and specialised oil and gas PPE to companies across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and the UAE.
